AUTHOR BIO: Walter M. Fitch (1929-2011) was Professor of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology at the University of California, Irvine. He was a member of the National Academy of Sciences, member of the Human Genome Organization, and the author of more than 200 publications in molecular evolution. His previous books are Tempo and Mode in Evolution: Genetics and Paleontology Fifty Years after Simpson and Variation and Evolution in Plants and Microorganisms: Toward a New Synthesis Fifty Years after Stebbins.
OVERVIEW: «Walter M. Fitch, a pioneer in the study of molecular evolution, has written this cogent overview of why creationism fails with respect to all the fundamentals of scientific inquiry. He explains the basics of logic and rhetoric at the heart of scientific thinking, shows what a logical syllogism is, and tells how one can detect that an argument is logically fallacious, and therefore invalid, or even duplicitous. Fitch takes his readers through the arguments used by creationists to question the science of evolution. He clearly delineates the fallacies in logic that characterize creationist thinking, and explores the basic statistics that creationists tend to ignore, including elementary genetics, the age of the Earth, and fossil dating. His book gives readers the tools they need for detecting and disassembling the ideas most frequently repeated by creationists.»

Help for Chapter 1: Intro to Logic 14th ed. by Copi
From St. Augustine's treatise "The Literal Meaning of Genesis" (A.D. 354-430)
«Usually, even a non-Christian knows something about the earth,
the heavens, and the other elements of this world, about the motion
and orbit of the stars and even their size and relative positions,
about the predictable eclipses of the sun and moon, the cycles of
the years and the seasons, about the kinds of animals, shrubs, stones
and so forth; and this knowledge he holds to as being certain from
reason and experience.
Now it is a disgraceful and dangerous thing for an infidel to hear
a Christian, while presumably giving the meaning of Holy Scriptures,
talking nonsense on these topics. We should take all means to
prevent such an embarrassing situation, in which people show up
vast ignorance in a Christian, and laugh it to scorn. The shame is
not so much that an ignorant individual is derided, but that people
outside the household of the Faith think that our sacred writers
also held such opinions, and (to the great loss of those for whose
salvation we toil), the writers of our Scriptures are criticized and
rejected as unlearned men.
If they find a Christian mistaken in a field which they themselves
know well, and hear him maintaining his foolish opinions
about the Scriptures, how then are they going to believe those
Scriptures in matters concerning the resurrection of the dead, the
hope of eternal life, and the kingdom of heaven? How indeed, when
they think that their pages are full of falsehoods on facts which they
themselves have learnt from experience and the light of reason?
Reckless and incompetent expounders of Holy Scriptures bring
untold trouble and sorrow on their wiser brethren when they are
caught in one of their mischievous false opinions, and are taken to
task by those who are not bound by the authority of our sacred books.
For then, to defend their utterly foolish and obviously untrue statements
they will try to call upon Holy Scriptures for proof, and even
recite from memory many passages which they think support their
position, although they understand neither what they say nor the
things about which they make assertions.»

Unlike Google that crawls the whole web and downlists (if not delists) torrent links, multi-metasearch engine torrentz.eu only crawls torrent indexes for active torrents (short list of results, only torrents). You can search by keyword(s) (from title or author's name) or hash code. Check the "Quality: Any" listing to access verified and unverified torrents floating in torrent space. Metasearch engine torrentz-pro.net often returns additional results (search by keywords or hash code).
Torrentz.eu being known for its prompt obedience to DMCA takedown requests (and given that torrents, once created, never cease to exist even when de-indexed or left for dead - unseeded), a visit to re-indexer torrentproject.se often proves fruitful (provides .torrent files and magnets but no descriptions).
