DESCRIPTION
Minature green monsters tear through the small town of Kingston Falls. Hijinks ensue as a mild-mannered bank teller releases these hideous loonies after gaining a new pet and violating two of three simple rules: No water (violated), no food after midnight (violated), and no bright light. Hilarious mayhem and destruction in a town straight out of Norman Rockwell. So, when your washing machine blows up or your TV goes on the fritz, before you call the repair man, turn on all the lights and look under all the beds. Il giovane Billy riceve per Natale un mogwai di nome Gizmo, un tenero e misterioso animaletto che il padre, uno strambo inventore, ha comprato in un negozio di cianfrusaglie di Chinatown. La prima regola che viene violata è quella di non esporlo mai alla luce, che, quando la mamma di Billy vuole festeggiare quel momento con un ricordo, scatta una foto, e con il flash abbaglia Gizmo che impazzisce per pochi secondi. La seconda regola viene violata accidentalmente e il Mogwai dà alla luce altri esserini simili a lui, anche se più vivaci ed aggressivi. I nuovi arrivati fanno gruppo quando con un sotterfugio riescono a procurarsi del cibo dopo la mezzanotte. Una volta nutriti formano dei bozzoli, da cui escono trasformati in Gremlins, orribili mostriciattoli verdi decisamente più pericolosi. Il primo ad essere aggredito dai gremlins è un ricercatore universitario, che viene morso e avvelenato dall'iniezione che aveva fatto al Gremlin che aveva studiato, Billy scopre il cadavere e cerca di telefonare per chiedere aiuto, ma viene ferito alla mano dal mostro, che successivamente scappa nei condotti dell'aria.
