Ethan Burke è un agente dei servizi segreti assegnato alla sezione di Seattle che conduce delle ricerche per scoprie la verità dietro la scomparsa di due agenti federali, Bill Evans e Kate Hewson. Le sue indagini lo portano nell’idilliaca città di Wayward Pines, una cittadina quasi perfetta: belle case, prati curati, bambini che giocano senza pericolo per le strade.
Ma non tutto è come sembra: nessuno può lasciarla, nessuno può interagire con il mondo esterno.
Arrivato a Wayward Pines, Burke rimane coinvolto in un misterioso incidente d’auto dopo il quale si sveglia in ospedale dove i medici mettono in dubbio la sua sanità mentale e si rifiutano di dimetterlo. Eppure Ethan sa per certo qual è la sua missione e non è intenzionato a desistere.
Intanto, Theresa e Ben, la moglie e il figlio dell’agente, non avendo ricevuto notizie iniziano ad indagare da soli sull'insolita scomparsa di Ethan. Riusciranno a mettersi in contatto con lui?
