When the evil Dr Hell attacks the Earth, the mighty giant mecha Mazinger Z is formed to stop him.

C'è pace in Terra nel mondo di Mazinga Z e del Grande Mazinga dopo le battaglie del passato, ma la meravigliosa ricostruzione realizzata grazie all'energia fotonica è minacciata dal ritorno del Dottor Inferno e dei suoi alleati: l'ermafrodita Barone Ashura e il conte Blocken con la testa separata dal corpo. La loro è una misteriosa resurrezione, che coincide con il ritrovamento nelle profondità del monte Fuji di un'enorme "divinità demoniaca" simile a Mazinga e pertanto denominato Mazinga Infinity, che sarebbe proveniente dall'antica Micene ma che in modo apparentemente inspiegabile è appunto sotterrato in Giappone. Dalle rovine della mastodontica entità emerge una misteriosa ragazza androide che sarà chiamata Lisa. Mentre Tetsuya e il Grande Mazinga sono dati per dispersi dopo una battaglia contro le forze del Dottor Inferno, tocca di nuovo a Koji Kabuto, ormai più scienziato che pilota, lottare per difendere la Terra.
