DESCRIPTION
Melinda Gordon inherited her "gift" - the ability to see and talk with the spirits of dead people - from, and was coached in its use by her grandmother. Melinda Gordon è una giovane imprenditrice che, in associazione alla sua amica Andrea Marino, gestisce un piccolo negozio di antiquariato. Dietro al suo carattere gioioso e aperto, però, si nasconde il suo sconcertante segreto: fin da bambina è capace di comunicare con le anime dei morti per aiutarle a "passare oltre". Attraverso le esperienze con persone diverse da lei, impara a vedere in modo diverso tutto ciò che le si pone di fronte, imparando, in ogni episodio, un'importante lezione di vita.
Aiutando le anime dei morti a trovare pace, Melinda riesce a sentirsi meglio perché ha fatto del bene, ma a volte, quello che fa per aiutare gli altri, viene interpretato in modo negativo da alcuni spiriti maligni tenuti sulla Terra dalla profonda rabbia che è ancora dentro di loro.
Il suo nemico è lo spirito di un uomo sconosciuto che convince gli altri spiriti a rimanere sulla Terra e a non passare oltre. È uno spirito malvagio che in "The One" ricatta la protagonista "rapendo" anime. In cambio della libertà di queste anime egli vuole lo spirito di Melinda.
