Figlio di una "maîtresse" e di un celebre truffatore (defunto), il giovane Nick Hezard vive di piccoli imbrogli, del tutto indegni del "grande" genitore. A fornirgli involontariamente l'occasione di emularne le imprese è, un giorno il "boss" Robert Turner, che, dopo essersi servito di lui per truffare le assicurazioni fingendo un furto di gioielli, ha tentato di ucciderlo. Per vendicarsi di Turner, che gli ha anche ammazzato un amico, Hezard comincia, aiutato da una squadra di esperti imbroglioni, con lo strappare al "boss" - costretto a versarglieli per evitare guai maggiori - duecentomila franchi svizzeri. Finanziato, in questo modo, dalla sua stessa vittima, Nick passa alla seconda parte del piano, consistente nel tradurre Turner, sotto l'accusa di un omicidio mai avvenuto, in un finto posto di polizia; di sottoporlo a un finto processo da parte di un falso magistrato; di liberarlo, a patto che egli si rifugi in Venezuela, in cambio dei quattro milioni di franchi versatigli dalle assicurazioni. Caduto nella trappola, Turner perde non solo i soldi, ma anche i gioielli.
The son of a "maîtresse" and a famous swindler (deceased), the young Nick Hezard lives of small cheats, totally unworthy of the "big" parent. The "boss" Robert Turner, who after having used him to defraud insurance by pretending to be stolen by jewels, has attempted to kill him. In order to take revenge on Turner, who also killed a friend, Hezard begins, helped by a team of expert cheaters, with the snatch from the "boss" - forced to pay them to avoid major trouble - two hundred thousand Swiss francs. Funded, in this way, by his own victim, Nick goes to the second part of the plan, consisting in translating Turner, under the charge of a murder never happened, in a fake police station; to subject it to a fake trial by a false magistrate; to free him, provided he takes refuge in Venezuela, in exchange for the four million francs paid to him by insurance companies. Fallen into the trap, Turner loses not only the money, but also the jewels.
