DESCRIPTION
Following the theft of a highly-secured piece of artwork, an agent convinces her insurance agency employers to allow her to wriggle into the company of an aging but active master thief. Connery's burglar takes her on suspiciously and demands rigorous training before their first job together--stealing a highly-valued mask from a chichi party. Their deepening attraction and distrust could tear apart their partnership but the promise of a bigger prize (some eight billion odd dollars) by Zeta-Jones keeps the game interesting. Only, who's playing with whom?
Sinopsis by IMDBTRAMA:
Robert 'Mac' MacDougal è considerato il maggior ladro d'arte del mondo. Quando a New York viene rubato un Rembrandt, Mac diventa l'indiziato numero uno. Gin Baker, investigatrice delle assicurazioni, convince il suo capo ad affidarle la ricerca di Mac, per evitare che la compagnia sia costretta a pagare il premio di 24 milioni di dollari. Gin e Mac si incontrano a Londra, poi Mac conduce la ragazza nel proprio castello in un'isola occidentale della Scozia. Qui Mac addestra Gin a diventare una perfetta ladra d'arte, e lei lo asseconda, diventando una perfetta allieva. Tra sospetti, sotterfugi e mezze parole, Gin riesce a rubare una preziosa maschera cinese al museo di Londra, e poi insieme si preparano ad un colpo memorabile: rubare dischetti dal valore multimiliardario all'interno del grattacielo più alto del mondo a Kuala Lumpur. Il colpo viene studiato nei minimi dettagli e programmato durante i festeggiamenti per il capodanno del Duemila. Tutto procede secondo le previsioni, fino a quando, per un banale contrattempo, i due sono costretti ad una fuga precipitosa e rischiosissima dagli ultimi piani del grattacielo. Fallito il colpo, Thibadeaux, che era l'assistente di Mac, si rivela invece un poliziotto e ordina l'arresto del ladro. Arrivati alla stazione per il trasferimento, Mac con uno stratagemma aggira la guardia dei poliziotti e si ricongiunge a Gin, alla quale ormai lo lega una forte passione.

Robert MacDougal è un ladro di origine scozzese, vive solitario in un castello dove colleziona le opere d'arte oggetto dei suoi furti. Con la collaborazione di Virginia metterà a segno due colpi, il colpo a Bedford Palace e alle Petronas Towers. Virginia Baker è una giovane agente delle assicurazioni Waverly di New York, è incaricata di far arrestare MacDougal. Diventerà partner di Mac nel furto della maschera e nel colpo del millennio e finirà per innamorarsi di lui. Aaron Thibadeaux è un agente dell'FBI che due anni prima ha beccato e in seguito fatto un accordo con MacDougal diventando una persona di sua fiducia. Hector Cruz è il capo di Virginia alle assicurazioni Waverly, cerca in ogni modo di incastrare Mac. Conrad Greene è un ricettatore di opere d'arte e fornitore della strumentazione necessaria a compiere il furto di Kuala Lumpur. Haas è un ragazzo che procura rivende materiali usati nei furti e da cui Virginia ruba un vaso Qing con le piante complete e il sistema di allarme in ogni dettaglio di Bedford Palace.
