Dopo essere stato catturato dal MACUSA (Il Magico Congresso degli Stati Uniti d’America), con l’aiuto di Newt Scamander, il potente Mago Oscuro Gellert Grindelwald, come aveva minacciato di fare, riesce a fuggire dalla detenzione e inizia a radunare i suoi seguaci, la maggior parte dei quali sono ignari delle sue vere intenzioni: riunire dei maghi purosangue per governare su tutti gli esseri non-magici. Nel tentativo di contrastare i piani di Grindelwald, Albus Silente recluta il suo ex studente Newt Scamander, che accetta di aiutarlo, inconsapevole dei pericoli che si sarebbero prospettati.
