Lo psichiatra infantile Malcolm Crowe, mentre si appresta a passare una rilassante serata con la propria moglie, si vede invece sparare all'addome da un suo ex paziente, evidentemente cresciuto, che anni prima non era riuscito a curare dai propri problemi relazionali.
