DESCRIPTION
Set in 1950s Manhattan, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is a 60-minute dramedy that centers on Miriam "Midge" Maisel, a sunny, energetic, sharp, Jewish girl who had her life mapped out for herself: go to college, find a husband, have kids, and throw the best Yom Kippur dinners in town. Soon enough, she finds herself exactly where she had hoped to be, living happily with her husband and two children in the Upper West Side. A woman of her time, Midge is a cheerleader wife to a man who dreams of a stand-up comedy career, but her perfect life is turned upside down when her husband suddenly leaves her for another woman. Completely unprepared, Midge is left with no choice but to reevaluate what to do with her life. When she accidentally stumbles onto the stage at a comedy club, she soon discovers her own comedic skills and decides to use this newfound talent to help her rebuild a different life for herself. The series will trace the trajectory of Midge's journey as she goes on to pursue a career in the male-dominated, stand-up comedy profession, and transforms from uptown housewife to East Village club performer.

Miriam "Midge" Maisel è una casalinga ebrea che vive a New York nel 1958. Suo marito Joel tenta, con scarso successo, di esibirsi come comico. Midge aiuta Joel fornendo dei feedback positivi sui suoi spettacoli. Una sera, guardando uno show comico in televisione, scopre che Joel ha rubato una battuta a Bob Newhart, Joel si giustifica dicendo che è alle prime armi, che tutti i comici rubano degli spettacoli. Una notte, dopo una prestazione sul palco particolarmente malriuscita e con in più una coppia di amici a far da spettatori, Joel confessa a Midge che ha una relazione con la sua segretaria e la lascia. Midge va dalla sua famiglia per chiedere sostegno, ma riceve soprattutto critiche per la sua scelta di aver sposato Joel. Dopo essersi ubriacata, Midge torna nel Comedy Club dove Joel si esibiva di solito, improvvisa uno spettacolo su quanto fosse accaduto quella sera che riscuote immediati applausi e, in preda ai fumi dell'alcool, mostra il seno a dimostrazione di quanto sia ancora una donna attraente. Viene immediatamente arrestata e portata in carcere per atti osceni in luogo pubblico. La mattina seguente, al suo rilascio, incontra il comico Lenny Bruce, anch'egli in fase di scarcerazione. Bruce avverte Midge che l'ambiente della comicità è tremendo, ma Midge prende la sua opinione come un incoraggiamento e si riunisce con Susie, una dipendente del Comedy Club, per affinare il suo pezzo comico.
