DESCRIPTION
Consummate con man Roy Courtnay has set his sights on his latest mark: the recently widowed Betty McLeish, worth millions. But this time, what should have been a simple swindle escalates into a cat-and-mouse game with the ultimate stakes.

L'inganno perfetto, il film diretto da Bill Condon, segue la storia di Roy Courtnay (Ian McKellen), esperto truffatore che insieme al suo socio in affari Vincent (Jim Carter) manipola persone facoltose per avere accesso alle loro finanze. Tramite inganni e sotterfugi i due mettono a segno ogni colpo, racimolando un bel po' di denaro. Ed è proprio per questo che Roy si sente davvero fortunato quando incontra Betty McLeish (Helen Mirren), vedova benestante con oltre 3 milioni di sterline da parte e di salute cagionevole. Il suo piano è molto semplice: deve prima sedurla e poi aprire un conto risparmio insieme a lei così da appropriarsi dei soldi dopo la sua morte.
Nonostante il nipote di Betty, Steven (Russell Tovey), si mostri molto sulla difensiva, arrivando a chiedere a Roy chi sia veramente, Betty trasferisce ugualmente i suoi soldi sul conto congiunto. Ma la truffa del secolo che credeva di avere compiuto si rivela una trappola, perché Roy non è stato l'unico a mentire sulla sua vera identità...
