DESCRIPTION

Michael Westen, un agente operativo della CIA, nel bel mezzo di una delicata operazione in Nigeria
scopre improvvisamente di aver ricevuto una burn notice (una notifica di licenziamento), a cui
consegue l'immediata espulsione dai servizi segreti, ed il congelamento dei propri conti bancari.
Abbandonato da tutti, Michael riesce a scappare in modo rocambolesco dall'Africa e si rifugia a
Miami, sua città natale, ritrovandosi senza un soldo, senza la minima idea del perché sia stato
"bruciato", e senza riuscire a mettersi in contatto con qualche responsabile della CIA; anzi, Michael
si rende presto conto che l'agenzia stessa lo sta misteriosamente pedinando giorno e notte,
impedendogli di lasciare la città. Per sopravvivere, Michael decide di guadagnare qualche soldo
iniziando a condurre investigazioni private; questo periodo di alloggio "forzato" a Miami lo porta
involontariamente a rimettersi in contatto con la madre Madeline, con cui ha sempre avuto un rapporto
problematico.
Nel frattempo, grazie all'aiuto della sua ex ragazza Fiona – una ex volontaria dell'IRA ancora
innamorata di lui, e del suo vecchio amico Sam – un ex agente operativo oggi informatore dell'FBI,
con ogni mezzo Michael cerca di scoprire chi e perché ha emanato la sua burn notice.
