DESCRIPTION
1930s Korea, in the period of Japanese occupation, a new girl (Sookee) is hired as a handmaiden to a Japanese heiress (Hideko) who lives a secluded life on a large countryside estate with her domineering Uncle (Kouzuki). But the maid has a secret. She is a pickpocket recruited by a swindler posing as a Japanese Count to help him seduce the Lady to elope with him, rob her of her fortune, and lock her up in a madhouse. The plan seems to proceed according to plan until Sookee and Hideko discover some unexpected emotions.

Il piano va in crisi quando Sook-hee comincia a provare sentimenti per lady Hideko....
The Handmaiden è un grande film. Bellissimo, e che gode di una messa in scena che rasenta la perfezione e di una storia incredibilmente ben articolata, intrecciata, complessa, solida. Park Chan-wook gira questo film con una perizia tecnica e una qualità visiva che da sole basterebbero ad elevarlo un gradino sopra la stragrande maggioranza delle pellicole uscite negli ultimi anni.
Dopo il pluripremiato Old Boy, la Trilogia della Vendetta, Thirst e Stoker, ecco The Handmaiden. Forse il più grande film di Park Chan-Wook.
