Awakening in a secret LuthorCorp lab among partial Lex clones, Tess meets young Alexander before the bloodthirsty, dying senior knocks her down and uses Lois, who enabled Clark's healing by removing the fatal blue kryptonite, to set a sadistic trap. Despite his success, Clark lets his confidence be undermined by Jor-El in the ice fortress, but reconsiders after a pep-talk from Jonathan.

DESCRIPTION
The numerous miraculous rescues by the local wonder boy Clark have aroused suspicions amongst colonials of Smallville. Interestingly, the boy has managed to downplay his acts of various heroic egresses in the past. They say he's either too fast or has a penchant for finding trouble. He was found by Martha and Jonathan Kent on the day of the Meteor Shower, and subsequently adopted. Clark's friend Lex Luthor, the only heir of Luthorcorp, has been secretly investigating grounds for Clark's outlandish valor. However, on the face of it, Clark just seems a normal boy who's slightly more secretive than usual.

Tutto ha inizio in seguito alla catastrofica caduta di meteoriti contenenti un minerale radioattivo, la kryptonite, con cui molti abitanti di Smallville vengono contaminati dalle radiazioni presentando particolari mutazioni genetiche. Chloe Sullivan e Clark Kent, giornalisti in erba del liceo di Smallville, indagano su questi eventi inspiegabili fino a trovarsi più di una volta invischiati nei loschi piani di Lionel Luthor, padre di Lex, che non sembra avere particolari problemi a spingersi fino all'omicidio per tentare di nascondere i propri affari.
La prima stagione è incentrata sul cosiddetto "mostro della settimana" (un essere umano colpito dagli effetti della pioggia di meteoriti) che usa i suoi poteri per fini malvagi ed affrontato dal giovane Kent nel corso di un solo episodio; questo stratagemma fu un'idea originale di Gough & Millar per appassionare diversi spettatori occasionali che non si sarebbero persi subito in una storia orizzontale troppo complicata. La prima stagione ruota inoltre attorno le misteriose origini aliene di Clark e sulla scoperta che il suo arrivo sulla Terra provocò incidentalmente la morte dei genitori di Lana. Dalla seconda stagione si affrontano piccoli archi narrativi (accompagnati sempre dal cattivo della settimana), i quali diventeranno sempre più complessi col passare delle stagioni che si concentrano su Clark e sugli altri singoli personaggi. La scoperta della dinastia kryptoniana di Clark; l'introduzione di Jor-El e la Fortezza della solitudine; la comparsa della cugina di Chloe, Lois Lane; la lotta di Clark contro Brainiac, un androide alieno che tenta di liberare il terribile Generale Zod dalla Zona fantasma insieme ad altri prigionieri che Clark dovrà catturare o eliminare; l'arrivo della cugina biologica di Clark, Kara; e Lex che infine scopre il segreto di Clark. L'ottava stagione ruota attorno all'introduzione di Davis Bloome, ovvero Doomsday, e di una donna chiamata Tess Mercer, in sostituzione della fuoriuscita di Lex Luthor dalla serie. La nona stagione si basa sulla comparsa del maggiore Zod, clone del generale Zod, a capo di un'armata di kandoriani, i quali cercano di ottenere i loro poteri che dovrebbero avere normalmente sulla terra.
