Trama :

New York. Ted Kramer è un dirigente pubblicitario ossessionato dalla sua professione, al quale viene assegnata un'importante pratica di lavoro. Poco dopo aver ricevuto la notizia torna a casa e trova la moglie Joanna nell'intento di andarsene di casa, dicendo di avere bisogno di un po' di tempo per riflettere sulla sua vita. Joanna lascia temporaneamente il loro figlio Billy al padre.

Ted a causa del lavoro impegnativo, non ha tempo sufficiente da dedicare al figlio e Billy sente molto la mancanza della madre. Dopo alcuni mesi però...
