DESCRIPTION
Characters live in an alternative history in which Franklin D. Roosevelt was defeated in the U.S. presidential election of 1940 by Charles Lindbergh.
Estate del 1940. Mentre l'Europa è in piena Seconda Guerra Mondiale, e mentre la Germania semina successi a destra e a manca, gli Stati Uniti d'America hanno optato per la neutralità. Ma quanto sta accadendo al di là dell'Atlantico fa comunque discutere, al punto che il Paese è spaccato in due. Da una parte ci sono i sostenitori dell'attuale linea - perché mai l'America dovrebbe andare a ficcare il naso in una guerra che non la riguarda minimamente e che porterebbe solo problemi e morti? -, dall'altra quelli che pensano che l'ascesa di Hitler e del nazismo sia una minaccia mondiale, dunque c'è bisogno di intervenire prima che la situazione degeneri ulteriormente.
Intanto, le elezioni presidenziali sono vicinissime. A sfidarsi sono il presidente in carica Franklin Delano Roosevelt, fautore del New Deal, e Charles Lindbergh, figlio di immigrati svedesi e aviatore-eroe noto in tutto il mondo per la sua traversata in solitaria dell'Oceano Atlantico...e per le sue simpatie per il nazionalsocialismo. La vittoria del primo potrebbe comportare un'effettiva entrata in guerra, mentre la vittoria del secondo significherebbe il mantenimento della neutralità. Nonostante le sue uscite in odore di xenofobia e populismo, è Lindbergh a vincere: l'America resta neutrale, il Paese si sposta nettamente verso destra, e l'antisemitismo cresce e si diffonde a macchia d'olio anche nella più grande democrazia del mondo.
