DESCRIPTION
A government trained assassin in life, A vengeful hellspawn in death. Brought back from the dead to join Hell's army and release his carnage on anyone that may get in his way. Heaven and Hell battle for his already torn soul, while he wanders the alleys protecting the innocent and destroying the corrupt who disrupt the lives of the innocent. In the meantime he faces the tragedy of his death and the fact that he has been sent to Hell and he must also face the reality of losing his wife to an old friend.

Cinque anni dopo essere stato assassinato dai colleghi corrotti del servizio segreto governativo, Al Simmons fa un patto col diavolo per tornare sulla Terra, vendicare il suo assassinio e rivedere Wanda, grande amore della sua vita. Spinto dalla collera, Simmons risorge nelle vesti di Spawn, cavaliere delle tenebre dal volto sfigurato. Troppo tardi, Spawn si rende conto che il patto è ingannevole, e vorrebbe rinunciare al ruolo assegnatogli di distruttore del genere umano. La sua presa di posizione incorre però nelle ire dell'inferno e a Spawn viene opposto Violator, demonio indistruttibile che arriva sulla Terra con un corpo di vagabondo dall'andatura incerta di nome Clown. Questi trova un alleato in Jason Wynn, agente governativo che aveva concertato l'assassinio di Simmons. Wynn ha piazzato bombe nelle principali città, ma con una trappola: sono infatti programmate per esplodere quando il battito cardiaco di Wynn cessa. Spawn , scoperto lo stratagemma, deve scegliere tra la propria sete di vendetta e il destino dell'umanità. Dopo cruenti scontri, il Clown sotto forma di mostro, viene eliminato da Spawn.
