David Stillwell, un chimico, ha scoperto una formula per neutralizzare la radioattività. Quando capisce che Calvin, il proprietario dei laboratori in cui lavora, è intenzionato a vendere la formula, la brucia e Calvin, nel tentativo di recuperare il foglio in fiamme, precipita dal 27mo piano dell'Unidyne Building. David da questo momento entra in stato di choc e perde la memoria mentre il socio di Calvin, Crawford, fa di tutto per fargli riscrivere la formula ed eliminarlo. David sfugge a tutta una serie di attentati e, con l'aiuto di un detective e di uno psichiatra, colma il vuoto della sua mente.
