Galveston, il film diretto da Mélanie Laurent, segue la storia di Roy Cady (Ben Foster), un piccolo gangster al soldo di un boss di New Orleans. Dopo essersi sentito diagnosticare un tumore incurabile, Roy accetta un lavoro che si rivela una trappola: il suo capo, infatti, ha deciso di rimuoverlo dal clan...uccidendolo. Roy fugge nella sua città natale, a Galveston, per salvarsi la vita, portando con sé una giovane prostituta, Rocky (Elle Fanning), che ha trovato nelle mani degli sgherri che volevano fargli la pelle. Durante il loro viaggio, i due troveranno il modo di fare i conti coi rispettivi demoni e, condividendo le tragedie delle loro vite, instaureranno anche una sintonia che forse può diventare qualcosa di simile all'amore.
Prima di giungere a Galveston, Rocky recupera una bambina, che spaccia per sua sorella minore Tiffany, ma che rappresenta soltanto uno dei suoi tanti oscuri segreti. Nel frattempo Roy cerca di ricattare il suo, ormai ex, capo per estorcergli una cospicua somma di denaro da dividere poi con Rocky, ma il boss, deciso a vederli morti, non si fermerà davanti a nulla...
