The Turning - La casa del Male, il film diretto da Floria Sigismondi, è un adattamento cinematografico del racconto horror Il giro di vite di Henry James. È ambientato in una misteriosa e vecchia tenuta nelle campagne del Maine in cui abitano Flora (Brooklynn Prince) e Miles (Finn Wolfhard), due orfani con turbe apparenti psichiche. Una giovane tata di nome Kate (Mackenzie Davis) viene assunta per prendersi cura dei due ragazzi. La ragazza non ha nessuno, a parte la madre pazza, rinchiusa in un manicomio.
Giunta nella dimora, Kate fa la conoscenza della signora Grose (Barbara Marten), l'anziana governante dal carattere molto freddo e distaccato. In particolare, la ragazza stringe un legame più solido con la piccola Flora, che le consiglia di star lontana dall'ala est della casa.
Durante la sua permanenza in casa, Kate inizia a credere che questa sia infestata da presenze maligne. Presto si renderà conto che i ragazzi e l'abitazione nascondono oscuri segreti, e che le cose sono molto diverse da quelle che sembrano.
