DESCRIPTION
An average man is kidnapped and imprisoned in a shabby cell for 15 years without explanation. He then is released, equipped with money, a cellphone and expensive clothes. As he strives to explain his imprisonment and get his revenge, Oh Dae-Su soon finds out that his kidnapper has a greater plan for him and is set onto a path of pain and suffering in an attempt to uncover the motive of his mysterious tormentor.

Benvenuti nell'incubo visionario di Chan-wook Park, regista di spicco, al fianco di Kim Ki-duk, della Nouvelle Vague del cinema coreano. Che non ha nulla da invidiare, quanto a tensione e suspense, al cinema di genere americano, ma spesso e volentieri lo supera in profondità e torbidezza psicologica e in crudezza del racconto. Un cinema di genere estremamente nero, quello firmato da Park, che sa farsi d'autore.
Quentin Tarantino, che lo ha insignito a Cannes del Gran Premio della Giuria da lui stesso presieduta ,dichiarerà apertamente: "Oldboy è il film che avrei sempre voluto fare".
