DESCRIPTION
In a dystopian future, the totalitarian nation of Panem is divided into 12 districts and the Capitol. Each year two young representatives from each district are selected by lottery to participate in The Hunger Games. Part entertainment, rutal retribution for a past rebellion, the televised games are broadcast throughout Panem. The 24 participants are forced to eliminate their competitors while the citizens of Panem are required to watch. When 16-year-old Katniss' young sister, Prim, is selected as District 12's female representative, Katniss volunteers to take her place. She and her male counterpart, Peeta, are pitted against bigger, stronger representatives, some of whom have trained for this their whole lives.

Trama del film Hunger Games:
Ogni anno tra le rovine di quello che fu il Nord America, lo stato di Panem obbliga ognuno dei suoi dodici distretti a mandare un ragazzo e una ragazza a competere agli Hunger Games. In parte bizzarro spettacolo, in parte stratagemma intimidatorio del Governo, gli Hunger Games sono un evento televisivo nazionale nel quale i "Tributi" devono combattere gli uni con gli altri per la sopravvivenza. Contrapposta ai Tributi ben allenati che si sono preparati agli Hunger Games per tutta la vita, Katniss è costretta a contare sul suo brillante istinto oltre che sull'addestramento di un precedente vincitore dei giochi, l'alcolizzato Haymitch Abernathy. Per tornare a casa al Distretto 12, Katniss deve fare scelte impossibili nell'arena, che metteranno sulla bilancia la sopravvivenza contro l'umanità e la vita e contro l'amore.
