DESCRIPTION

Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) è un geniale, arrogante e rinomato neurochirurgo di New York City. La vita del dottore cambia a seguito di un incidente d’auto che, lacerandogli gravemente le mani, lo lascia privo della capacità di operare. L’ex ragazza e sua collega chirurgo, Christine Palmer (Rachel McAdams), cerca di aiutarlo a voltare pagina, ma Strange persegue invano interventi chirurgici per guarire le sue mani e tornare al suo adorato lavoro. Ormai in bancarotta e dopo aver provato ogni tipo di cura, viene a conoscenza di Jonathan Pangborn, un paraplegico che misteriosamente ha riacquistato l'uso delle sue gambe. Da lui il dottore apprende dell’esistenza di Kamar-Taj, un luogo dove tutto può essere guarito. Giunto a destinazione, Strange viene accolto dallo stregone Mordo e dall'Antico, il più potente di tutti i maghi. Quest'ultimo mostra i suoi poteri, rivelando al medico l’esistenza di un piano astrale e di altre dimensioni come quella dello Specchio. Seppur con riluttanza, l'Antico accetta di addestrare Strange, la cui arroganza e ambizione le ricordano Kaecilius, un suo vecchio allievo diventato servo di una delle più grandi minacce dell’umanità, Dormammu. Il nuovo apprendista scopre che la Terra è protetta dalle altre dimensioni da uno scudo generato da tre edifici chiamati Santuari. I palazzi sono situati a New York, Londra e Hong Kong, e sono tutti collegati e accessibili da Kamar-Taj. Il compito degli stregoni è di proteggerli, poiché la loro distruzione permetterebbe a Dormammu di uscire dalla dimensione oscura e invadere quella terrestre. Strange, che voleva solo poter tornare ad operare, si ritrova coinvolto in una battaglia a difesa del pianeta.
