Episode Plot:
When a fourth person vanishes in Elwood, Indiana, and the witnesses claim that they have been abducted by aliens, Dean and Sam head to the town to investigate the UFO sightings. They contact the father of the last victim, Mr. Brennan, who is a traditional watchmaker, and the Winchester brothers suspect that the man is hiding something. Dean and Sam interview people on the streets expecting to find a clue. Among the interviewees, they talk to UFO expert Wayne Whittaker Jr. and the apparently crazy Marion, who is an expert in fairies. While investigating the cornfield where the victims had disappeared, Dean is abducted by a bright light. Sam continues to investigate and forces Brennan to disclose that he had used a spell to summon fairies to help him in his store. Dean returns and now the only chance of the brothers is are the advices of Marion about the fairies.

DESCRIPTION
This television drama is about the two Winchester brothers, Sam and Dean, who were raised by their father, John, to hunt and kill all things that go "bump in the night" after his wife, Mary, was murdered by an evil supernatural being when the boys were young. 22 years later the brothers set out on a journey, fighting evil along the way, to find their recently missing father who, when they finally meet up with, reveals he knows what killed their mother, a demon, and has found a way to track and kill it. Meanwhile, Sam starts to develop frightening abilities that include death visions, visions of people dying before it actually happens. These visions are somehow connected to the demon who murdered his mother and its mysterious plans that seem to be all about Sam. When their father dies striking a deal with the very same devil that had killed his wife, the brothers, now alone and without their mentor, are determined to finish the crusade their father started. But disturbing revelations about Sam's part in the demon's apocalyptic plans are presented when John's dying last words to Dean are revealed.

La serie è prodotta dalla Warner Bros. Television, in associazione con Wonderland Sound and Vision. Il team di produttori esecutivi comprende Eric Kripke, McG e Robert Singer; l'ex produttore esecutivo Kim Manners morì di cancro ai polmoni durante la produzione della quarta stagione. Supernatural debuttò il 13 settembre 2005 sul network The WB, per poi passare, dalla seconda stagione in avanti, nel palinsesto della neonata The CW.
La trama tratta di due fratelli che perdono la madre, uccisa da un demone a loro sconosciuto, e del loro padre che inizia un lungo viaggio per cercarlo e distruggerlo. Dean e Sam, avuta notizia della scomparsa da casa del padre, partono alla sua ricerca ed a bordo di una Chevy Impala del 1967, s'imbatteranno in ogni sorta di demone, spettro e malvagità.
La serie è ricchissima di citazioni cinematografiche del genere horror (tra cui Poltergeist, The Ring, The Blair Witch Project) e molti episodi sono basati su leggende popolari molto famose negli USA (la trama dell'episodio Uomo Uncino ad esempio, si rifà ad una leggenda citata anche nel film Urban Legend). La metodologia investigativa dei due protagonisti, la sceneggiatura e le atmosfere decisamente tetre, ricordano molto la serie di culto X Files, ed in generale, tutto il telefilm può essere considerato una celebrazione dell'horror più classico ed adolescenziale degli anni ottanta e novanta.
