DESCRIPTION

Pearl Harbor is a classic tale of romance set during a war that complicates everything. It all starts when childhood friends Rafe and Danny become Army Air Corps pilots and meet Evelyn, a Navy nurse. Rafe falls head over heels and next thing you know Evelyn and Rafe are hooking up. Then Rafe volunteers to go fight in Britain and Evelyn and Danny get transferred to Pearl Harbor. While Rafe is off fighting everything gets completely whack and next thing you know everybody is in the middle of an air raid we now know as "Pearl Harbor."

Pearl Harbor è un film del 2001 diretto da Michael Bay che racconta una storia d'amore ambientata durante l'attacco giapponese alla base navale di Pearl Harbor. Rafe McCawley (Ben Affleck) e Danny Walker (Josh Hartnett) sono migliori amici da quando erano bambini e giocavano insieme in aperta campagna, da sempre appassionati di aerei. Nel gennaio del 1941, nel bel mezzo della seconda guerra mondiale, Danny e Rafe, ormai cresciuti e arruolati nel Corpo Aeronautico dell’esercito, sono entrambi primi tenenti sotto il comando del maggiore Jimmy Doolittle (Alec Baldwin). Il superiore informa Rafe che la sua domanda per entrare nello Squadrone Eagle - un comando dell’aeronautica inglese per piloti americani - è stata accettata. Durante le visite mediche a cui i soldati devono sottoporsi per poter partire in missione, Rafe incontra una bella e gentile infermiera di nome Evelyn (Kate Beckinsale) che, dopo aver scoperto la dislessia del ragazzo, gli assegna ugualmente i 10/10 all’esame oculistico per non togliergli il distintivo. Quando nasce l'amore, i due si frequentano fino a che, a malincuore, Rafe rivela ad Evelyn che è in procinto di partire per combattere in Europa contro le forze naziste, promettendo però di raggiungerla al più presto.

Nel frattempo la ragazza e Danny devono trasferirsi alla base navale delle Hawai, a Pearl Harbour, la principale base statunitense nel Pacifico. Poco dopo, scoprono che Rafe è stato dato per disperso in un'azione di guerra. Il grande dolore per la perdita porta Evelyn nelle braccia di Danny, e i due si innamorano iniziando una relazione. Ma qualche settimana dopo, la sera del 6 dicembre, l’ex fidanzato si presenta alla porta di Evelyn, spiegandole che è sopravvissuto all'incidente spinto proprio dall’amore per lei. Rafe capisce sin da subito l’amara verità e il tradimento dell’amico, ma i due non hanno tempo di chiarirsi: la mattina successiva Pearl Harbor viene attaccata dall’esercito giapponese. Danny e Rafe si troveranno coinvolti, così come Evelyn, nella difesa aerea del porto militare e, nel tentativo di salvare più vite possibili, metteranno momentaneamente da parte i loro rancori...
