Twee tieners zitten op nieuwjaarsavond in het vliegtuig, onderweg van
New York naar Los Angeles. Hun nachtmerrie begint als halverwege de
vlucht het vliegtuig met hevige turbulentie te maken krijgt. Het
onverwacht slechte weer en de turbulentie zorgen voor angst en paniek
bij de passagiers. Uiteindelijk stort het toestel neer in een afgelegen
gebied waar de regering testen uitvoert. Het handjevol gedesoriënteerde
overlevenden van de crash wordt er vervolgens in het donker achternagezeten
door onbekende roofdieren, die zonder dat ze het weten, deel uitmaken van
een geheim experiment georganiseerd door de regering.
