DESCRIPTION
Cullen Bohannon, a former soldier and slaveholder, follows the track of a band of Union soldiers, the killers of his wife. This brings him to the middle of one of the biggest projects in US history, the building of the transcontinental railroad. After the war years in the 1860s, this undertaking connected the prospering east with the still wild west.
Hell On Wheels speelt zich af in 1865 en gaat over de eerste transcontinentale spoorweg, door de bouwvakkers ook wel eens Hell On Wheels genoemd omdat de spoorweg door het gelijknamige dorpje loopt.
De serie focust zich op de mensen die ermee te maken krijgen en die er rechtstreeks of onrechtstreeks bij betrokken zijn.
Hell On Wheels werd in opdracht van Endemol USA geschreven en geproduceerd door Joe en Tony Gaeton, een broederpaar dat in het verleden verantwoordelijk was voor de scripts van langspeelfilms als Murder By Numbers, The Salton Sea en recentelijk Faster.
Het hoofdpersonage in Hell On Wheels is Cullen Bohannon, een voormalige soldaat uit het Zuiden die na een lange dwaaltocht arriveert in Hell On Wheels waar hij door een samenloop van omstandigheden benoemd wordt tot voorman. Maar wat niemand weet is dat Bohannon een 'hidden agenda' heeft.
In de rolverdeling zien we Anson Mount in de hoofdrol met verder ook nog hip hopper Common en bekende tv-gezichten als Colm Meaney, Ted Levine en Tom Noonan. Het eerste seizoen is net in Amerika afgelopen, maar een tweede seizoen werd inmiddels besteld.
