DESCRIPTION
A collection of short documentaries culled from the first person interviews of many Pearl Harbor survivors, both Japanese and American, military and civilian. This series of 8 pieces was produced to bring these historical memories back to life on the eve of the opening of the new Pearl Harbor museum on December 7, 2010. A broad, diverse scope of perspectives shines a new, revealing light on one of the most important, iconic events in World History. With the support and funding of the National Park Service and the Pearl Harbor Monument, these pieces present a rich collection archival photos and film to illustrate these personal memories, transporting the audience back to that fateful day, December 7, 1941.

Il 7 dicembre 1941 la base navale di Pearl Harbor viene attaccata dalle forze militari nipponiche, causando di conseguenza l'intervento americano nella seconda guerra mondiale. Il tenente colonnello Lewis "Chesty" Puller tiene un discorso ai Marines del suo battaglione e annuncia loro che combatteranno la guerra sul fronte del Pacifico, dove l'Impero giapponese sta ottenendo numerose vittorie. La 1ª Divisione Marines, di cui fanno parte tra gli altri i marines John Basilone e Robert Leckie, viene quindi mandata sull'isola di Guadalcanal, un luogo fino a poco tempo prima sconosciuto. Nel frattempo negli Stati Uniti Eugene Sledge, che non aveva potuto arruolarsi prima per un soffio al cuore, inizia l'addestramento nel Corpo dei Marines.
