DESCRIPTION
Clive Barker's feature directing debut graphically depicts the tale of a man and wife who move into an old house and discover a hideous creature - the man's half-brother, who is also the woman's former lover - hiding upstairs. Having lost his earthly body to a trio of S&M demons, the Cenobites, he is brought back into existence by a drop of blood on the floor. He soon forces his former mistress to bring him his necessary human sacrifices to complete his body... but the Cenobites won't be happy about this.

Larry e la seconda moglie Julia decidono di trasferirsi in una villetta, abbandonata da anni, alla periferia di Londra. La casa è stata teatro di una torbida relazione tra Julia e il cognato Frank, i cui resti si trovano ancora nel luogo. Durante il trasloco Larry si ferisce a una mano e il sangue caduto a terra fa sì che Frank, in realtà imprigionato in una mostruosa condizione di disfacimento fisico causato dall'apertura di una misteriosa scatola, torni in vita. Julia, sentendo degli strani rumori provenienti da una camera, va a controllare e scopre che il suo ex amante è ancora vivo seppur in condizioni fisiche disastrose.
Per tornare alla sua condizione normale ha bisogno di sangue e Julia decide di aiutarlo fornendogli delle vittime. Larry si accorge che c'è qualcosa di strano nel comportamento della moglie e ne parla con la figlia, Kirsty, alla quale chiede di fare compagnia a sua moglie mentre lui è al lavoro. La ragazza il giorno seguente si reca nella villetta e vede Julia entrare nell'abitazione con uno sconosciuto. Insospettita entra in casa e scopre il terribile segreto.
