鉄道伝説　第98回「D52 型蒸気機関車〜最強の決戦機関車を開発せよ〜」 BSフジ 10月22日土曜 12:00 -12:30 鉄道の歴史・伝説に迫る人気番組、第9シーズン。今回は「D52形蒸気機関車」の伝説に迫る。太平洋戦争中の昭和18 年、日本で史上最強の蒸気機関車が誕生した。戦局の行方を左右する、国内の石炭輸送を強力に支えるために生まれた決戦機関車・D52 形蒸気機関車である。だが、戦時中の乏しい資材を節約したために、本来の力を充分に発揮することがないまま、戦争は終結。思わぬ事故もあり戦後消えていくかと思われたが、装備改造で本来の姿に生まれ変わり、その最強のパワーを東海道・山陽線で存分に発揮した。先輩機関車のD51 に比べ知名度は低いが、D52 は戦中から戦後にかけて日本の貨物輸送を支えて走り続けた、忘れてはならない機関車であった。
