La saga di Predator si arricchisce con un nuovo capitolo. E come è capitato per gli ultimi due, Predators (2010) e The Predator (2018), anche questa storia è sganciata dalle precedenti e vive di vita propria, perché in questo mondo narrativo gli alieni arrivano sul nostro pianeta da tempo immemore per dilettarsi nella caccia ai terrestri. Potremmo dunque avere, potenzialmente, un'infinito numero di avventure in cui gli esseri umani di qualunque epoca devono ingegnarsi per sopravvivere all'attacco delle tecnologicamente avanzate e orribili creature.
Prey si ambienta infatti nel 1700 in un territorio nordamericano dove vive una tribù di indiani Comanche. La trama segue una giovane donna di nome Naru, una feroce e abile guerriera cresciuta all’ombra di alcuni dei più leggendari cacciatori che si aggirano per le Grandi Pianure. La ragazza è pronta a proteggere la sua gente quando un pericolo che minaccia l'accampamento. Naru è la "preda" (da cui il titolo del film) inseguita e infine costretta a affrontare il predatore alieno.
