Lo scienziato sa come disinnescare le bombe, ma necessita di qualcuno che conosca bene la prigione di Alcatraz per farlo entrare.Qui entra in gioco il detenuto Patrick Mason (Sean Connery), ex agente dell'intelligence britannica, in carcere da ben trent'anni, che riuscì a evadere una volta da Alcatraz.
