After Earth - Dopo la fine del mondo, film diretto da M. Night Shyamalan, è ambientato in un futuro apocalittico in cui la Terra è ormai diventata un pianeta inospitale per gli uomini.
Sono passati quasi mille anni da quando il genere umano è stato costretto ad abbandonare il globo terrestre, per rifugiarsi sul pianeta Nova Prime. Dopo una serie di eventi catastrofici, il mondo è infatti diventato un luogo estremamente ostile, dove è impossibile vivere per gli esseri umani.
In questo contesto vive il generale Cypher Raige (Will Smith). Dopo un lungo turno di lavoro nello spazio, il militare sta facendo ritorno a casa insieme a suo figlio, il tredicenne Kitai (Jaden Smith). Ma all'improvviso una tempesta di asteroidi danneggia gravemente la loro astronave, costringendoli a un atterraggio di fortuna sulla Terra.
L’impatto ferisce gravemente Cypher, costringendo Kitai ad avventurarsi da solo nelle terre ostili. L’unico modo per salvare la vita di suo padre, infatti, è di recuperare un faro d’emergenza per chiamare i soccorsi, perso mentre la navicella precipitava nell'atmosfera. Finalmente è l’occasione per il giovane Kitai di rendere orgoglioso suo padre...
