It is very important to know which user has access to which folders and disks on the computer. The NTFS Permissions Reporter program is available for download specifically for this purpose. According to the developers, this software is considered one of the fastest tools for creating reports on user permissions on the market.
Various Windows tools are able to determine the rights of users and groups to directories. This includes a file explorer that shows the existing permissions in the context menu of a directory or file. Command line tools are also available in icacls and PowerShell. The main weakness of these tools is that the information is either scattered at different addresses, or the display is confusing.
This is where NTFS Permission Reporter comes to the rescue (here is the Enterprise version with an activation key, you can use it for free), the application simplifies the analysis of permissions.
If you don't remember the path to the network share by heart, the tool offers a server input field, which then displays all the shared resources and from which you can select the ones you need. In general, you can make a whole list of directories before you start making reports. If you are already in the directory whose permissions you want to check, you do not need to run the program and then enter the current path. The privilege overview is displayed as a tree or table, showing whether the corresponding rights were explicitly assigned to this directory or they were inherited.
