In the finale of the second "Fantastic Beasts", the evil wizard Gellert Grindelwald (then Johnny Depp) promised to cleanse the world of Muggles, and then informed Creedens (Ezra Miller) that he actually… Dumbledore. This caused confusion not only for the hero, but also for a good half of the audience. And a powerful sorcerer did this to set up a young obscura against his sworn friend and kill a rival, because Grindelwald himself (now Mads Mikkelsen) for some reason, he cannot harm Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law).
In the very first scene of the third film, we are hinted at why. On a "date" in a restaurant, it turns out that the two magicians are not connected by a long-standing friendship at all, but by a stormy romance that ended when Gellert began to adhere to fascist views on the world order. And wizards cannot fight because of a ritual performed in their youth: a spell sealed with their blood in an amulet will kill anyone who raises his hand (that is, a wand) at another.
Dumbledore's cuming-out in 2022 will not surprise anyone anymore ― J.K. Rowling told about the sexual orientation of the character a few years ago. Therefore, the first secret promised in the credits turned out to be not such a secret. The name in general and its Russian localization in particular are misleading: it is not so much about Albus Dumbledore as about the Dumbledore family as such. Another secret can compete only with the solution to the origin of Rey from Star Wars, and do not go to Rita Skeeter for the rest ― everything was known from the Harry Potter books.
It would be much more logical to shorten the name to "Dumbledore's Creatures", because there are not many secrets, and of the fantastic little animals around which the franchise was originally invented, only the audience's favorites (pocket bow and sniffer) and a couple of newcomers ― dancing crabs and the tsilini kids remained. Arthropods were invited into the frame so that the audience giggled a little, and the cilini became something like a living Goblet of fire (they seem to be important for the development of the plot, but they could be replaced by anything). But there are so many minor characters that they will not fit into any bottomless suitcase, enchanted for internal expansion.
Do you remember the spell that caused the treasures in Bellatrix Lestrange's vault to multiply at a touch? So the heroes of "Creatures" breed in the same way when J.K. Rowling and her co-author Steve Cloves touch them. There are no more main and secondary lines, and the film, in fact, consists of sometimes meaningless and not the most consistent movements.
In fact, the entire timekeeping of two and a half hours (only he remained fantastic at the tape) Damlebdor uses his associates like owls and sends them to different locations: for example, to convey a message to the president of the International Confederation of Magicians, consisting of only one sentence. Or he gathers everyone for lunch at Hogwarts, so that he can immediately teleport from there. In general, instead of showing how the premonition of an imminent war is slowly seeping into all corners of the magical and non-magical community, and leading up to one of the most important battles in the history of "Potteriana", the plot slides more into Santa Barbara with finding out who is who and how deeply everyone suffers because of it.
This trend has been outlined in "The Crimes of Grindelwald" and, it seems, according to the idea of J. K. Rowling and Steve Cloves, it should have led to the same main message as in "Harry Potter": love always conquers evil. Partly, the triumph of a bright feeling in the triquel takes place, but at the same time the film just lost one of the main romantic lines: Newt's beloved Tina (Katherine Waterston) appears only a couple of minutes closer to the finale, although in previous parts she was the main character.
The franchise, which survived despite the cancellation parade (first the Rowling scandal, then Depp's dismissal, a prison sentence for the rape of Kevin Guthrie, and now Ezra Miller's numerous misdemeanors), is not saved even by old Mads Mikkelsen. You can't argue with the fact that the Danish actor plays the role of a dark magician much more than Depp, but they don't give him full disclosure, like any other hero. It seems that the key to salvation is only to cast a spell of oblivion on everyone, forcing them to forget the plot of the already existing trilogy forever, and shoot three new paintings dedicated to Jacob Kowalski (the incomparable Den Fogler) — the only character who has at least some development
