When the residents of Morton Fendle learn that the local mill is to be shut, many also realize that they will lose their investments in the place. Alan Hollingsworth had encouraged the locals to invest but he is now bankrupt and refuses to explain what has happened to the money. Feelings are running high and Gray Patterson in particular, Hollingsworth's one time partner, seems ready to do something about it. When Hollingsworth's wife disappears, Barnaby concludes that she has been kidnapped and that may account for the missing money. But who exactly are the kidnappers and why have they targeted Mrs. Hollingsworth in particular? A hidden romance and eventual betrayal allows Barnaby to bring the culprits to justice.

DESCRIPTION
The British detective drama revolves around DCI Barnaby's efforts to solve numerous murders that take place in the fictional English county of Midsomer. The current lead character is DCI John Barnaby, who is the younger cousin of former lead character DCI Tom Barnaby. The Barnabys have worked with several different sergeants throughout the run of the show, including Sgt Gavin Troy, Sgt Dan Scott, Sgt Ben Jones and Sgt Charlie Nelson.

Series Plot: Based originally on the books by Caroline Graham, each self-contained episode of two hours is a classic whodunit revolving around Detective Chief Inspector Barnaby and his partner, and their efforts to solve the numerous gruesome murders which take place in the picturesque countryside of Midsomer County.
Episode plot: When May Cuttle, from the Lodge of the Golden Windhorse interrupts DCI Barnaby during preparations for Sunday lunch, little does he realise the intrigue that is to follow. The home for 'travellers' at the Lodge becomes the scene of Barney and Troy's investigations when the founder of the new-age commune, accidentally falls down the stairs to his death. But when the other founder is murdered in front of a roomful of people, the first death starts to look as if it may have not been an accident at all.
