The Taste of Things , a film directed by Tran Anh Hung, takes place in France in the 19th century.
Eugénie ( Juliette Binoche ) and the renowned chef Dodin Bouffant ( Benoît Magimel ) have been working side by side for over twenty years now. Bouffant's cuisine is of the highest level, his dishes are considered among the tastiest and most refined in the country. The collaboration with Eugénie has been fundamental in all these years to build the excellence that everyone recognizes in it.
The great complicity, inevitably present between the two, is also the basis of a strong loving and passionate feeling, especially on Dodin's part. The chef decides to surrender to the evidence and asks his partner several times to marry him. Eugénie is a very independent woman, she has always rejected Dodin's proposals because she sees marriage as a threat to her freedom.
At this point, the man, tired of her reluctance, decides to win her over by doing something he had never done before: cooking for her.

Eugénie (Juliette Binoche) e il rinomato chef Dodin Bouffant (Benoît Magimel) lavorano fianco a fianco da ormai oltre vent’anni. La cucina di Bouffant è di altissimo livello, i suoi piatti sono considerati tra i più gustosi e raffinati del paese. La collaborazione con Eugénie è stata fondamentale in tutti questi anni per costruire l’eccellenza che tutti gli riconoscono.
La grande complicità, inevitabilmente presente tra i due, è anche alla base di un forte sentimento amoroso e passionale, soprattutto da parte di Dodin. Lo chef decide di arrendersi all’evidenza e chiede più volte alla sua socia di sposarlo. Eugénie è una donna molto indipendente, ha sempre rifiutato le proposte di Dodin perché vede nel matrimonio una minaccia per la sua libertà.
A questo punto, l’uomo, stanco della sua riluttanza, decide di conquistarla facendo una cosa che non aveva mai fatto prima: cucinare per lei.
