Mija, una donna di 66 anni che vive con suo nipote, un ragazzo che frequenta il liceo in una piccola città di provincia attraversata dal fiume Han, nella Corea del Sud.
Mija è eccentrica e piena di curiosità. Il caso la porta a frequentare un corso di scrittura poetica e, per la prima volta nella sua vita, a scrivere una poesia. Mija cerca la bellezza anche nel suo ambiente, al quale fino ad allora, non aveva prestato un'attenzione particolare. Ha l'impressione così di scoprire delle cose che erano sempre state davanti ai suoi occhi.
Ma il suo sogno di scrivere poesie deve fare i conti con una realtà dolorosa e sordida, a cui si rifiuta di prestare il fianco, che immagina diversa e finisce per trasfigurare - forse per l'Alzheimer che la sta aggredendo. Una realtà a cui si ribella con la ricerca della bellezza...
