Dedicated to the friend who came back.
This encode is USBD based. Filtering and encoding settings were "researched" in novemeber 2022, and finalized in summer 2023. No changes have been made to the script or the encoding settings. Writing here relies on old memories and examination done this spring.
If there are any issues, contact me for fixes.
BD:
- This is the easiest source to work with; 16:9, CFR, progressive, presynced audio and subtitles.
- Terribly produced blu-ray, deinterlaced awfully then fake telecined with bullshit pulldown flags. This release is decimated to 23.976p, this results in exaggerated stuttering in some cases.
- H264 compression ftw
Filtering:
- [comparisons](https://slow.pics/c/DJJYqT9v)
- Progressive repair + denoising, dehalo, dither, chroma bleed fix
- Filtering is not designed to look accurate to how Bleach was artistically intended, this release aims only to fix the source video issues, providing a release to watch 168-366 of Bleach ([SOFCJ's 1-167](https://nyaa.si/view/1233407) is my recommendation)
- ~540p was not an artbitrary decision, ~480p repair looked worse, too high a resolution wouldn't repair enough, too low would warp too much.
- repair work alters art, especially noticable on mouths when characters are talking
- audio kept as DTS to potentially preserve AV bitstreaming properties (feel free to reupload with FLAC)
This exists because this was the most convinient version to release for now, DVD is telecined, vfr + has a myriad of other issues that I have only now found a script I'm comfortable with. A DVD release is possible, I will not encode, but someone else can contact me if interested. I have synced subtitles and styles ready but I would like to add lyric subs and styled signs. 1-167 and 168-366 have two seperate scripts ready to be encoded.
I have a potential v2 of this script. It's superior but I won't encode that either. But should any fan projects like filllerless recuts, this source is convinient for such a project.
P.S.
this was encoded with the wrong colourspace, I have tried translating it to be Rec 709 as I believed specifying that desired colourspace would work, it didn't.
