Note : Some more new releases, this A24-produced horror comedy doesn't quite pull off what it's going for, but it's pretty entertaining none the less, with some good, gleeful gore and a few pretty hilarious gags. It's light fare, but it's a decent way to pass the time. The cast is also much better than it needs to be, including Paul Rudd, Jenna Ortega, Will Poulter, Richard E. Grant, Téa Leoni, Sunita Mani, Steve Park, and Anthony Carrigan.
Elliot Kintner and his daughter Ridley are spending a weekend at the secluded estate of his boss, Odell Leopold. While driving through the mountains, they accidentally strike what turns out to be a small unicorn. Ridley touches it horn and experiences psychedelic visions, until Elliot bludgeons the unicorn with a tire iron, splashing them both with blood. They arrive at their destination with the dead unicorn in their car, and soon after discover that they've both been cured of various minor ailments. Their hosts soon discover that the unicorn is still alive, and one of their assistants shoots it. Learning of the healing properties, Odell wants to experiment on the body, and he's soon cured of his cancer by an IV infusion of unicorn horn. His son Shepard, however, snorts powdered horn, and moves on to freebasing it, receiving visions of the backstory of the animal. As Odell's scientists prepare to move the unicorn body to a lab, they discover that the dead animal's parents are still around, and not very pleased with what's been going on...
New film. Perfect transfer. Nothing to complain about. Image and sound both flawless. Director sounds like an annoying dweeb on the commentary track.
