17 OCT 2024 - Welcome Back to TorrentFunk! Get your pirate hat back out. Streaming is dying and torrents are the new trend. Account Registration works again and so do Torrent Uploads. We invite you all to start uploading torrents again!
This is a re-upload. I tried uploading these last week but I made the mistake of uploading the encodes with no audio, which I hadn't realized until after they were posted... but this has been fixed now.
Original description below:
-----------------------------------------------------
Toho recently released a UHD box set containing 4K remasters of various Godzilla movies—Godzilla 1984 being one of them. As far as extras go: whatever was included on the 2009 JPBD release was included in here again by Toho, but as a bonus, there are also tons of other extras that Toho unearthed—these were not previously included in the 2009 JPBD.
I was given the opportunity to have access to remuxes of the UHD's main feature, as well as the extras that came included with it. I got 1080p encodes of the entire UHD, so for accessibility purposes I will be posting them here.
Haven't really had a chance yet to do a thorough comparison of the 4K remaster and the Kraken USBD that I used for my fansubbed release of '84 back in February of this year, but the 4K remaster does seem to have better colors just from a quick glance.
List of extras featured on the 4K JPBD that are included in this torrent release:
- Teaser Trailers 1 ~ 4 (Teaser #1 has 2 versions)
- Main Trailer
- 15-Second & 30-Second TV commercials (both of these have two versions)
- Post-Film Home Video Announcement
- Press Conference News Flash
- News Clip 1 & 2
- Location Guide
Some notes:
- The "Location Guide" extra was already on the 2009 JPBD—this encode of that extra is not from the 4K set but rather from the 2009 JPBD instead.
- The main trailer was also on the 2009 JPBD but Toho re-scanned it in 4K for the UHD release—what you see here is from the 4K set and not the JPBD set. Also, this comes with two audio tracks—a mag audio track and an optical audio track (mag audio is the default). When Toho included the trailer on '84's second LD release, it used optical audio—but AFAIK every version of the trailer after that opted to use mag audio instead. Personally I would have just discarded the optical track completely since it sounds like dogshit but since Toho went through the effort to go all-out with the extras, I figured I might as well just include the optical track anyways just to go along with it. The audio was recorded by me from my own LD copy, straight from the digital audio track.
- There is an additional extra on the 4K set also lifted from the 2009 JPBD—a 43-min behind-the-scenes documentary focusing on '84. Having originally been released on LD (and I think maybe VHS?), I actually decided to get the LD myself and got a Domesday capture of this special. However, I have omitted it from this torrent since it still kind of needs work—I will post it as a separate torrent once I feel like it's ready.
- The audio tracks for the main feature include a 2.0ch stereo track, a 5.1ch surround track, and a commentary track. Neither the 1080p nor the 4K encodes of the main feature use the 2.0ch stereo track I recorded from my LD copy which I used for my fansub release of this movie back in February. I presume the 2.0ch audio was lifted straight from the 2009 JPBD since it has the same level of audible distortion found on that release.
-The 4K UHD actually happened to contain an English-dubbed version of the main trailer (as well as a text-less version of it) as a bonus, but I omitted them here since I have no interest in anything pertaining to this movie's English dub.
- Before anyone asks: yes, I intend on putting out a v2 release of my '84 fansub eventually—I'll be transferring my subs over to this 1080p encode as well as the 4K version. Realistically, the sub transferring won't be difficult, but I won't be releasing this fairly soon—the LD audio I cooked up for v1 doesn't match the UHD release, which means I'll need to stitch it from scratch. Furthermore, I'm considering making a new subtitle track for people who want to watch the movie with the 5.1ch audio, which will also take time.
- Yes, I intend on getting the extras translated. It'll take time, but it'll happen.
