DESCRIPTION

Jonathan Harker(Bruno Ganz), incaricato di trattare con il Conte Dracula (Klaus Kinski) l'acquisto di una vecchia casa di Wismar, lascia l'Olanda e si dirige verso la Transilvania nonostante l'opposizione della giovane moglie Lucy (Isabelle Adjani) che nel contempo ha sofferto paurosi incubi. Anche gli abitanti del villaggio rumeno e gli zingari accampati nelle vicinanze del diroccato castello fanno il loro possibile per trattenere lo straniero che testardamente prosegue...
Il film è un remake del capolavoro diretto da Friedrich Wilhelm Murnau, Nosferatu il vampiro (1922). Herzog ha affermato di considerare il film di Murnau la pellicola più importante mai prodotta in Germania, e di averlo voluto rifare per stabilire un collegamento tra il grande cinema tedesco del passato e il cosiddetto "nuovo cinema tedesco", di cui egli è un esponente.
Herzog affidò il ruolo principale del vampiro all'attore Klaus Kinski che si rivelò l'interprete ideale per quel ruolo. Nel cast anche Isabelle Adjani e Bruno Ganz. Le musiche sono dei Popol Vuh.
