Episode Plot:
Rick's latest idea to get home is for them to build a raft. He figures the swamp must empty out into a river which will take them to an ocean and civilization. The first half of the thought is indeed correct as they are able to find a river. However, they approach a waterfall, which they just manage to avoid, but which their raft does not survive. Through a hole in the cliff wall, they are brought into a series of tunnels. In the previous experiences, a series of tunnels generally means the presence of Sleestak. What, or more precisely who they find in the tunnels however is Jefferson Davis Collie III, an old Confederate soldier. After both sides getting over the shock of seeing the other, the Marshall family enters into a barter of sorts with their new acquaintance: work by the Marshalls for food. What he wants is for them to mine for crystals, the ones in this tunnel which are the same as they have seen elsewhere, but larger. The Marshalls' main goal still is to find where the river goes, it going somewhere underground after the waterfall. Collie implies that he knows where the water source is, he who refuses to say as he has his own motives with the three. Beyond this arrangement, the Marshalls have to worry about the Sleestak, evidence of their presence being in the tunnels.

DESCRIPTION
The Marshalls - widowed ranger father Rick, and his two children Will and Holly - are on an outdoor expedition like they have many times before. While rafting on this trip, an earthquake opens up a chasm resulting in them tumbling across some raging rapids and over an unknown waterfall. They end up alive but in a world unfamiliar to them, a world they will ultimately coin the Land of the Lost. It is inhabited by creatures some they have never seen or heard of, and some which no longer exist in the world they knew back home, creatures such as dinosaurs. They will find that some of these creatures are friendly, and some of them which they need to stay away from for their lives. As they eke out a life in this strange land, they try to understand what got them here so that they can make their way back home, that process which is fraught with its own dangers based on the unknowns of what is on the path to home. What they are also initially unaware of is that Rick's brother, fellow ranger Jack Marshall, is trying to trace their path to locate them.
