A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms è una serie tv fantasy tratta dall'omonimo racconto di George R.R. Martin e ambientata nell'universo de Il Trono di Spade. Lo spin-off prequel, la terza serie tv ambientata in quell'universo, è ambientato circa un secolo prima delle vicende de Il Trono di Spade e racconta di Ser Duncan l'Alto e del suo scudiero Egg, che vagano per le terre di Westeros, dominate dai Targaryen. Ad attendere questi improbabili eroi e amici ci saranno pericolose imprese e potenti nemici.
Il Cavaliere dei Sette Regni è una serie meno “epica” rispetto a quelle che l’hanno preceduta, dal carattere più intimo e contenuto, senza enormi battaglie (e quindi con meno effetti speciali). La dinastia dei Targaryen è sempre al potere, anche se – complice la scomparsa dei draghi – fatica un po' a mantenere i suoi fasti. È un periodo di assestamento, dove si gettano le basi per quello che verrà in futuro. Dunk è un cavaliere errante, umile e buono, che sul suo cammino incontra il piccolo Egg (soprannominato “Uovo” per la sua testa rasata). Nessuno può immaginare che il ragazzino, in incognito, sia un Targaryen: in futuro diventerà re Aegon V, nonno del Re Folle e bisnonno di Daenerys. Insieme, Dunk ed Egg viaggiano per Westeros e prendono parte al torneo di Ashford.
Tra intrighi di villaggio, sfide e duelli, è il rapporto tra Dunk ed Egg a fare da protagonista: vedremo il cavaliere errante crescere man mano, anche grazie alla sua inusuale amicizia con il piccolo scudiero. Le storie personali sono quindi il centro del racconto, che si concentra su grandi temi come l’onore e la giustizia. Grande spazio dunque a dialoghi e scelte morali.
