De miniserie The Bible is op dit moment in Amerika het kijkcijferkanon. De eerste twee afleveringen, uitgezonden door History Channel, trokken respectievelijk 13 en 10,8 miljoen kijkers. Daarmee was de serie beide keren het best bekeken programma van die avond.
De serie wordt gemaakt door Mark Burnett (producer van Survivor, de Amerikaanse versie van Expeditie Robinson) en Roma Downey (Touched By An Angel). De twee zijn God dankbaar voor het succes van de serie. Burnett vertelt in een interview: "De hand van God was zo duidelijk merkbaar. Alles kwam op een wonderlijke manier bij elkaar, de acteur, het script, de montage. Het kwam echt tot leven."
De tiendelige serie is ook populair bij christelijke leiders. Rick Warren liet via Twitter weten dat hij The Bible verreweg de beste bijbelfilm vindt die hij ooit heeft gezien.
