Might & Magic: Heroes VII is the next installment in the popular turn-based strategy game series. The production was developed by Limbic Entertainment studio from Germany, the team responsible for the expansions to Might & Magic: Heroes VI, as well as Might & Magic X: Legacy. The storyline of the game is focused around a civil war for the reign over the Empire. The campaign features a young prince named Ivan, from the house of Gryphon, the creator of the Shadow Council, which unites the representatives of six different factions. This organization provides council to the young ruler regarding current events and also inspires him to make the right decisions by telling him the old tales of famous heroes of the Ashan realm.
The game offers the players six playable factions: Haven, Academy, Necropolis, Stronghold, Sylvan and Dungeon; the last two were chosen by the players in an online poll. The basic mechanics of Might & Magic: Heroes VII are extremely similar to those of the last few installments of the series, which makes the production a mixture of a turn-based strategy game with RPG elements. The players will spend their time in the game exploring the map, gathering resources and using them to build mighty strongholds; it is also possible to develop your heroes, recruit more units for your armies and battle against other players or monsters on extremely detailed battlefields.
The developers have paid a lot of attention to suggestions from fans of the Might & Magic: Heroes franchise. Many of the mechanics which were missing in the last installment have been reintroduced, the simplistic economic system which featured only four resources has been removed, granting players seven different materials to gather. Each faction received their own 2D city screen with a couple of animated elements, as well as eight unique units. The system which allowed the conversion of keeps upon conquering them has also been removed (a captured Necropolis will not change to any other castle type, regardless of the faction of its conqueror). Units can no longer teleport between cities making it is necessary to use caravans, the maps are also significantly larger. During wars the player will use such machines of war as catapults and ballistae, battlefields now contain more obstacles and provide bigger challenge, and flanking enemy units in Might & Magic: Heroes VII will now also grant a damage boost.
