Affermato dentista di Miami, Ted Brooks viene un giorno a sapere che la defunta madre gli ha lasciato una misteriosa eredità in Alaska. Chiuso per qualche tempo lo studio, Ted parte per il nord del Paese. Ma una volta giunto a destinazione una poco piacevole sorpresa lo attente: ha infatti ereditato... una muta di otto vivaci e preziosi cani da slitta che, per colmo di disgrazia, sembrano avercela proprio con lui. A complicare le cose, la comparsa di un gigantesco e sgarbato autoctono, Thunder Jack, che vorrebbe la muta per sé e per questo intima senza mezzi termini a Ted di tornarsene in fretta al caldo sole del sud.
