DESCRIPTION
An assassin named Al Simmons is double-crossed and murdered by his evil boss Jason Wynn. Al makes a deal with the devil and returns to earth as Spawn to see his wife. He is ordered by the devil's minion, The Clown, to kill Wynn. Wynn has made a deal with the clown too and is suppose to destroy the world with a deadly virus that will help start Armageddon and allow Hell to attack Heaven. Spawn must choose between Good & Evil.

Al Simmons è un killer professionista del governo USA. Durante una missione in Corea del Nord, nella quale avrebbe dovuto distruggere un impianto industriale utilizzato per produrre un virus da utilizzare come arma biologica viene ucciso a tradimento dal suo superiore Jason Wynn e dal suo braccio destro Jessica Priest. Wynn fa poi detonare l'impianto al fine di liberare il virus ed utilizzare gli abitanti del vicino villaggio come cavie da laboratorio per testare l'efficienza dell'arma batteriologica.
Subito dopo la morte, Simmons finisce all'Inferno, dove il demone Malebolgia gli propone un patto: lo avrebbe rimandato sulla Terra permettendogli di rivedere la sua amata Wanda, purché avesse accettato di guidare poi le truppe infernali fino alle porte del Paradiso. Simmons accetta e viene rimandato nel mondo dei vivi, con il corpo tuttavia irriconoscibile poiché deformato dalle ustioni.
