The Legacy is the debut album by American heavy metal band Testament. It was released in 1987. A song titled "The Legacy" was later released on the 1990 album Souls of Black.
The Legacy è l'album d'esordio dei Testament, pubblicato nel 1987 e il disco viene intitolato con il primo nome della band. Il genere è un Thrash Metal molto violento dove le influenze degli Slayer sono marcate nonostante venga dato anche un piccolo spazio alla melodia. L'iniziale "Over The Wall" è certamente un brano d'impatto, con un Chuck Billy dalla voce potente ed un Alex Skolnick impeccabile nei suoi riffs di chitarra, ben sorretti dal drumming veloce e preciso di Louie Clemente. Il terzo brano "Burnt Offerings" presenta un intro tranquillo e melodico per poi sfociare in ritmiche massiccie e inasprite. "C.O.T.L.O.D." (acronimo di "Curse Of The Legion Of Death") è il brano più duro e veloce del disco, dove si accentuano le influenze degli Slayer. "Alone In The Dark" (uno dei brani più famosi del quintetto) e "Apocalyptic City" chiudono il disco, considerato un gioiello per tutti gli amanti del Thrash Metal e che, secondo il parere di tanti, è considerato il miglior album dei Testament, assieme al successivo The New Order.
