DESCRIPTION
In the small town of Dillon, Texas, one night matters: Friday Night. Eric Taylor has recently been hired as the head football coach for the Dillon High School Panthers, the town's pride and joy. Friday Night Lights displays the stress that the town gives the high school players to win, and the hope that the team gives to a small town, and how a team has its low points, its high points, and how they come together as a team on their way to victory.

Comme pour la plupart des petites villes du Texas, le football est « le sport ». Tous les vendredis soirs, chaque habitant de la ville a les yeux rivés sur les joueurs de l’équipe du lycée. Cette année, les Panthers sont portés favoris.
Eric Taylor, le tout nouveau coach de l’équipe, a donc une pression énorme sur les épaules mais il peut toujours compter sur son quaterback fétiche, Jason Street. Ce garçon est considéré comme l’un des meilleurs joueurs de sa génération. Beaucoup d’universités sont prêtes à le recruter. Jason sort avec Lyla, une cheerleader jolie et intelligente. Tout se passe bien pour Street jusqu’au jour où il se blesse pendant un match et reste paralysé des membres inférieurs. Tout est remis en question pour le coach. Il est forcé de nommer Matt Sacaren, un première année, au poste de quaterback n°1 et entièrement le former. Il lui reste quand même de bons éléments dans l’équipe, comme Tim Riggins et Brian 'Smash' Williams. Malgré le fait que le coach consacre le plus clair de son temps au football, il a une vie de famille. Il est marié à Tami (conseillère au lycée) et ensemble ils ont une fille Julie.
La série est tirée tout d’abord d’un livre du même nom, écrit par H G Bissinger et publié dans les années 90. Peter Berg, le créateur de la série, a réalisé une adaptation cinématographique en 2004 avant de proposer à NBC d'en faire une série télévisée.
